American Comedy Archives

Archive, established at Emerson College in 2005 to acquire, preserve and make available primary source material that documents the professional activities of the groundbreaking individuals who have written, produced or performed comedy for radio, television, motion pictures or live performance.


American Humor Studies Association
The American Humor Studies Association is dedicated to the study of American humor in all its aspects. Membership in the American Humor Studies Association includes the semi-annual newsletter, To Wit (April 1, October 31), and the journal, Studies in American Humor (annually, Fall). Membership is $25 annually ($30 annually for addresses outside the United States), only $10 for graduate students.


Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor
The Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor (AATH) is an international community of professionals who incorporate humor into their daily lives.  AATH is the leader in providing evidence-based information about current research and practical applications of humor. Organization, based in the United States.


Australian Humour Studies Network 
The Australasian Humour Studies Network (AHSN) focuses upon emerging research into humour and laughter and promotes links between humour scholars in different academic departments and geographical locations. It has grown from 40 members and 10 discipline areas in 1997 to over 200 scholars and practitioners in more than 25 different disciplines and professions across Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere.
The Network, now hosted by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney, supports isolated scholars researching humour-related topics by offering a program of annual Colloquia and other resources, including links to the International Society for Humor Studies (ISHS). Colloquium proposals are peer-reviewed for quality and to ensure wide participation from different perspectives, including practitioners as well as academic specialists. In researching humour and laughter, it has long been recognized that multi-disciplinary enquiry is the key to achieving significant insights into these complex forms of human behaviour.


Documentation Humoristica Judaica - collection Jurgen Gottschalk 

This form of cover and title page reproductions publicized collection of documents on Jewish humor is an initiative of the Berlin historian, museum curators, and bibliophiles Jürgen Gottschalk. The collection includes approximately 1,000 images with the present state and other realities of different genera of 18 Century to the present day. Although geographic restrictions have been imposed, the focus of the collection is still well in the German-speaking world. 

CORHUM 
L'association pour le développement des recherches sur le Comique, le Rire et l'Humour  créée en 1987, a pour but de promouvoir toutes études, recherches, travaux portant sur le comique, le rire et l'humour dans tous leurs aspects : littéraires, linguistiques, historiques, sociologiques, anthropologiques, psychologiques, graphiques. L'association publie la revue semestrielle Humoresques soutenue et diffusée par les éditions de la Maison des sciences de l'homme.


International Society for Luso-Hispanic Humor Studies
The International Society for Luso-Hispanic Humor Studies (ISLH/HS) promotes the study and appreciation of humor wherever Spanish and Portuguese are spoken. The society encourages all areas of humor scholarship in the Luso-Brazilian and Hispanic worlds. It is dedicated to dissemination of information to a diverse population and encourages communication with others interested in this expanding field.


Institute for Travesty, Comedy, and Humor Studies 
Welcome to the Institute for Travesty, Comedy, and Humor Studies (ITCHS).  ITCHS was established for the promotion of research and study of comedy as a dramatic form and of humor, the spice of comedy.  ITCHS uses a variety of research methodologies from multiple disciplines, notably including literary criticism, rhetoric, and the empirical sciences.


Schmulowitz Collection of Wit and Humor
SCOWAH is one of the most extensive collections of its kind in the world, numbering at present over 20,000 volumes and 160 periodical titles, as well as a variety of other materials, in more than 35 languages and dialects, and spanning more than four centuries

SCOWAH comprises a wide range of wit and humor: readers will find international fairy tales and folklore, proverbs, national and ethnic humor, anecdotes, joke books, cartoons and comic books, political satire, biography, humorous essays, monologues, plays and novels, popular entertainments, movable books, and literary, historical and popular culture studies. The works of the The New Yorker and Punchwriters and artists are well represented, with a full run of Punch (1841-2002) here as well. The collection also includes humorous ephemera and the correspondence and scrapbooks of Nat Schmulowitz.


The international society for humor studies  (ISHS) is a scholarly and professional organization dedicated to the advancement of humor research. Many of the Society's members are university and college professors in the Arts and Humanities, Biological and Social Sciences, and Education.  The Society also includes professionals in the fields of counseling, management, nursing, journalism, and theater.  All of our members are interested in humor's many facets, including its role in business, entertainment, and health care as well as how humor varies according to culture, age, gender, purpose, and context.
     
As part of our activities, we publish the quarterly journal, Humor: International Journal of Humor Research, and a newsletter, and hold an annual international conference
